A Step Above Limousine & Ambassador Global Chauffeur
Life as an entrepreneur began very early for Ayman, starting before he could even drive. “There was a convention in town and my dad and best friend asked me to be the greeter at the airport. I started making money and wanted to do it more.” When he turned 16-years-old, he began driving and stayed in the luxury transportation business ever since.
Ayman was the youngest limo driver in the state of Georgia to get a license and spent the next few years in Atlanta driving exotic limos-Navigators, Excursions, and Hummers. He continued driving and learned the industry from the inside out until he opened his first professional transportation business.
Ayman has built a solid team of leaders in both Atlanta and Charlotte and everyone upholds the impeccable standards on which the company was built. Clients in both cities receive a level of attention and caring about clients that includes knowing them by name rather than by number. “We focus on the personal touch for clients’ experiences.” The vehicles in both fleets are excellent, if not brand new, in brand new condition. “We take care of our vehicles, through detailing and maintenance. Safety is a number one priority.”
As the industry has evolved, Ayman has made sure his business standards have as well. “I’ve been around this industry when we used bag phones and map books. The evolution of technology has made it easier and more efficient, but it’s taken some of the prestige out of this industry. Rideshare has taken some of the prestige out of it. You think of that white glove service, opening the door, we make sure the integrity remains in tact. We properly train our chauffeurs and make sure they are high-level professionals who have proper work ethic and discretion. Other companies are just trying to get by. We push our team to go to the next level, because we’re are the best.”
He launched A Step Above Limousine in Charlotte and five years later expanded to Atlanta with Ambassador Global Chauffeur. “There are different types of people in each city, they have different mentalities. It’s challenging being in both cities, 250-miles apart, to provide the personal attention we hold as a standard, but I’m still young and hip and I can manage it,” he says laughingly.
Kaitlin, Operations Manager,
A Step Above Limousine & Ambassador Global Chauffeur
Taking care of people was a pivotal part of Kaitlin’s seven year career as a nurse. She worked as an RN in the labor and delivery department before shifting gears and getting into the private transportation industry. “I wanted a better work/life balance for my family. I love working with others and I definitely pride myself on being able to help with people’s problem, whether that’s in the hospital setting or here.” Finding a professional opportunity at A Step Above Limousine and Ambassador Global Chauffeur proved to be the niche where Kaitlin belonged.
Katilin’s work focuses on all clients’ care, whether that be clients who need transportation, new employees, partner companies, municipal governments where their companies operate, Charlotte Douglas, Hartsfield-Jackson and other regional airports, or other entities that do business with A Step Above Limousine and Ambassador Global Chauffeur. “People know about the transportation industry, but they don’t know about everything that goes into it.
From the bottom up, it starts with vehicles being up to par, insurance regulations, required security badges, adequate staffing, proper training, ensured safety measures, and all the logistics. If you think about every little key piece that’s required just to pick one person up from the airport, we ensure it’s all in place. A lot of companies cut corners and it always shows up somewhere along the process.”
Kaitlin says their customer service is so unique, they have even accommodated clients who request a specific colored tie for their chauffeur. “Our personal service is outstanding, but we also take pride in the safety we put behind this company. Our cars are all less than two years old, they meet industry standards, we have up-to-date GPS, all of the vehicles are equipped with cameras on the road and on the chauffeurs to monitor the care our clients receive.”
Staff in the Spotlight
Melanie, Charlotte Executive Chauffeur
You can trust you’re in safe, competent company when Melanie is driving your vehicle. For six years, she drove generals, colonels and other high ranking officials for the US Military as an Army Specialist Master Driver with high-level security clearance. “The professionalism that you need in a military setting is exemplary,” she says. Melanie entered into service to our country when she turned 40-years-old. “I was older than a lot of the drill sergeants.” She spent six years in the Army though her driving career extends far beyond her military experience. She’s driven trucks across the country for decades without ever being in an accident or receiving a ticket. During her career at Fedex, she trained other drivers and was an example to her colleagues. “I like being out and about. I also worked as a bookkeeper and an executive secretary. But I enjoy driving. Driving is freeing.” She said she enjoyed the military rigor and the professionalism required to drive commanding officers was a natural fit which segued perfectly into her career with A Step Above Limousine and its clientele. “You can tell their vibe. For me, it’s to make them relaxed and have a luxury ride. By the end of the ride, I’ve had several people get out and give me a hug goodbye. People don’t see a lot of female chauffeurs. I’m bringing class to it and safety to it. I treat the vehicle as if it were my own.”
Victor, Charlotte Executive Chauffeur
An entrepreneur for 25 years, Vic can’t hide his New Jersey accent, nor his perfectionist approach to his job. “The way I treat it, every client I pick up, I’m the face of the business. They see how I treat the car, how I carry myself and that’s how they judge our company,” he says. Vic owned a butcher/deli shop in Charlotte for 16 years called “What’s Your Beef” and learned about the Queen City and her people during that time. Making the transition from entrepreneur to executive driver wasn’t too much of a stretch because Victor still has the opportunity for his personality to shine. “I love talking with people and I’m versatile in how I can relate to them. We’re all the same. Some of our careers are more extensive and more elaborate, but we’re all people.” On longer trips, some customers take advantage of the expert advice Victor can share about grilling, cooking, the best cuts of meat, “Our trips can be one hour, four hours, up to 10 hours. I’m very versatile on how I can talk with and relate to customers.” He would even say his habit for excellent sanitation as a butcher carries over into his career as an executive chauffeur because his car is always immaculate for his clients.
After closing his business, Vic worked with a ride-share company and logged more than 8,500 rides and maintained a 4.9-star rating. “I even play golf with some of the customers I met during that time.” A Step Above Limousine creates a place Vic is able to utilize his detail-oriented, precise work ethic to assist clients. “I love my customers and they love me. They’re very loyal to me.”
Steve, Charlotte Executive Chauffeur
Vehicle safety is an expertise Steve has excelled in for more than 30 years. Most of his experience as a commercial driver has been driving motorcoaches and he says, “I love the beach trips. I know DC very well and Williamsburg, Virginia.” He’s been trusted for decades to take children on school field trips to the Capitol, “I’m the person who is going to tell you, ‘Don’t worry, your child is in good hands.’ I drive those kids like they’re my own.” And Steve enjoys driving motorocoaches because he says it’s a personal experience for the clients. “If there are little kids on the bus, and it gets quiet, we start singing ‘The Wheels on the Bus.’”
Steve was the Federal DOT Safety Manager at a previous job and did all the driver training, kept the company and the fleet Federally compliant and handled insurance claims.
A retired bus driver with the City of Muncie, Indiana, he says he gained a lot of customer service skills while driving for the Muncie Indiana Transit System (MITS). And he is proud to be part of that fleet which won #1 Transit in the United States in their size classification. “I like personally working with people. I like the customer service aspect and getting them there safely.” Steve ensures pre-trip and post trip inspections of the motorcoaches are completed. Lights are checked, as well as, tire pressure, belts, coolants, transmission and oil levels. “I’ve always chosen to work for safe, reliable, responsible and great companies.” he says. Beyond vehicle checks, Steve also ensures drivers meet regulations too. Ensuring drivers have proper credentials at all times such as driver’s license and DOT medical card which shows a driver mentally and physically fit to do this job and is also drug free. “I strive for excellent customer service. When customers call and say, ‘I only want you to drive for me,’ that’s the reward.”
Latoya, Lead Dispatch, A Step Above Limousine & Ambassador Global Chauffeur
Like many people, Latoya searched for her calling and tried a lot of jobs on for size. She worked as a manager, worked at an auto auction, worked for Coca-Cola, did meal prep at a retirement home, but in 2011 she got a job as a dispatcher, “And I haven’t stopped since,” she declares.
Her Oklahoma City accent comes through over the phone from time to time, and so does her attention to detail and her impeccable ability to listen. “We listen to what you want and need to book. If you tell us the wrong date and day, we’ll catch it. I’m going to provide you the perfect, personal and professional service you need,” she says.
When Latoya found her first job as a dispatcher, she was managing transportation for women who were receiving government benefits and needed transportation to get to work. Then she moved to doing dispatch for the Medicaid program, and then onto transportation for the elderly population. But she really learned to master the job when she worked as a dispatcher for 30 limousine companies at the same time. “Dispatching is a calling because I know so much about it. Working for 30 different companies, I learned all the software, I taught other people and I trained other people,” she said. Now, she’s lead dispatcher for two limousine companies under the same owner, A Step Above Limousine which services the Charlotte region and Global Ambassador Chauffeur which services the Atlanta region.
She ensures customers are happy but she also says a big part of her success is making sure her drivers are happy. “I was a driver in the past, so I know their challenges. I communicate with them. It’s about being a good team leader, knowing how to control a stressful situation, and details. You have to be good to the drivers. I call them and I always tell them to be careful. And they appreciate that, because someone cares.”
Some clients call after another company failed to deliver services, Latoya sees that as an opportunity to show her organization rises above the rest. “You make the customer feel wanted on the phone and then when they get with the driver, the driver makes them feel special and they’re happy and comfortable. From the dispatcher to the driver, you’re going to get where you’re going safely, quickly, and professionally, and we get those good reviews.”
Now, she’s lead dispatcher for two limousine companies under the same owner, A Step Above Limousine which services the Charlotte region and Ambassador Global Chauffeur which services the Atlanta region.
